For my very first blog post, I wanted to share something close to my heart—photographing my own little guy, Edwin. Yesterday, I set up a back-to-school mini session right in my dining room. I’ve had the props for this setup for about a month, and on a whim, I decided to pull it all together and throw one of my kids in front of the camera.
This past month has been a reminder of the roots of my photography journey. Without a dedicated studio space at the moment (hopefully just temporary!), I’ve been navigating the challenges of digging through storage for props and setups. But even with these adjustments, creativity always finds a way.
Back in April, I took Edwin to ShutterFest, and he absolutely thrived. I received hundreds of compliments on how well-behaved he was and how he could be a “little model.” But when it comes to my own camera… well, the chaos begins! And honestly, I wouldn’t trade a single moment. These candid, quirky moments are the ones I want to remember from my children’s childhood—and they’re the same moments I aim to capture for all my clients.
I know many families leave my sessions with funny stories, even if they don’t feel so funny in the moment. So, if you ever visit my studio and things feel a little chaotic, don’t worry—my own kids don’t behave any better! Capturing authentic moments, laughter, and real childhood memories is what family photography is all about.
